Ryszard Groblewski is a Polish violist based in Zurich. After winning the 1st Prize, the Audience Prize and the Breguet Special Prize at the International Geneva Competition in 2005, as well as the 2nd Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich in 2004, his international musical career gained significant momentum. Groblewski has since performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout Europe, Asia and the USA. Collaborations with conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Sir Roger Norrington, Krzysztof Penderecki, Yan Pascal Tortelier, André de Ridder and Reinhard Goebel have brought him to prestigious concert venues across Europe. Ryszard Groblewski is also a devoted chamber musician, performing with some of the world’s finest artists. In recent years his passion has led to musical partnerships with Sir James Galway, Pinchas Zukerman, David Geringas, Krystian Zimerman, Daniel Hope, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Rudolf Buchbinder, Julian Rachlin, Miriam Fried, Hagai Shaham, Max Hornung, Christian Poltéra, Fabio di Casola, Quatuor Ebène, the Gringolts Quartet and many others. Groblewski has been invited to take part in critically acclaimed chamber music recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Sony, Naxos and Profil Medien. Viola concertos by Polish composers hold a special place in the artist’s repertoire. Major works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Grażyna Bacewicz and Tadeusz Baird have been recorded by Groblewski for Polish Radio. His interpretations have also been broadcast by radio stations in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy and France. He is further recognised for his teaching activity. In March 2026, he was appointed Professor of Viola at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. In addition to holding university positions in Poland and Switzerland between 2007 and 2014, he is regularly invited to lead masterclasses in Poland, Germany and France. Born in 1983 in Warsaw, Poland, Ryszard Groblewski began his musical education at the age of seven. In 2007 he graduated with honours from the Warsaw Academy of Music, where he studied with Prof. Piotr Reichert. He also received intensive musical training at the Ravinia Festival and through various Kronberg Academy projects, expanding his instrumental and musical expertise under the guidance of Nobuko Imai, Atar Arad, Yuri Bashmet, Heinrich Schiff, Gidon Kremer, Frans Helmerson and Paul Katz. Sports also play an important role in the artist’s life. Ryszard Groblewski is a certified fitness trainer. His knowledge of strength training, endurance and human anatomy helps both amateur athletes striving to achieve their best results and instrumentalists wishing to overcome weaknesses and improve their overall physical strength.
